I just finished reading "The Count of Monte Cristo" a few days ago. I have to say it is one of my favorite books. It was such an amazing story and I had to stop and re-read some of the lines, because they went straight to my heart. I loved it. I really admire the Count in the book, and its just I cannot keep repeating how amazing this book is.
On the other hand..the movie was horrible. I watched the movie with Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, and Richard Harris. I could not even finish the movie. Every 5 seconds I was saying "What?"..."this is the remix"...then after a while I was more like.. ok I really cannot watch this movie because first of all the Count of Monte Cristo himself is nothing like this man, and second of all I am really starting to get pissed off just watching this. I was really disappointed I didn't even finish the movie.
I understand that it was an action movie and the story was completely different from the book. So I had to stop watching it. That is my personal opinion and I understand that other people may love the movie but I didn't enjoy it at all.
So I give the book 5 stars, I would give it more if I could. I give the movie 0 stars. sorry but once you read the book the movie sucks.
So what is the point I am getting to? READ, the book is always better than the movie, and reading activates your brain. When I read "The Count of Monte Cristo" I had a little movie of it playing in my head..it was great and WAY better than the movie I saw. But again the only reason the movie sucked was because I read the book, and it was nothing like the book. Anyways here is a list of books I have read since January.
Books I have read since January;
1. Eclipse, by Stephanie Meyer
2. New Moon, by Stephanie Meyer
3. Breaking, Dawn by Stephanie Meyer
4. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner(a Twilight Novella), by Stephanie Meyer
5. The Count of Monte Cristo (the unabridged paperback version)by Alexandre Dumas
You are right on!!! but I enjoyed the movie only because it brings life to words although not the right images . . . It still adds life to the written word. I also read the books you listed and loved them truly. If you get a chance read the Harry Potter series you will be in awe in the dexterity of words and it interwinding connections between books! The movies after Prisoner of Azkaban sucked royally because WB chose the same horrible director David Yates - nothing like the books. What is horrible is that he invented scenes rather than follow the books! take care!
ReplyDeleteThe Sultan of Monte Cristo is a very well written sequal too! The author did a great job matching the writing style and verbiage used in the original Count of Monet Cristo. While a classic like The Count of Monte Cristo is a hard act to compete with, this book did a splendid job. The characters begin to come to life, and their dialog and interactions almost make you feel like you are in the 1800's. Familiar characters such as Mercedes and the Count himself are wrapped in a unique plot that makes you anxious to turn the page.
